Information used by this website

Newsletter registration stores your email and subscription status. Comments require a signed-in account and store your display name, message, account identifier, article, time and moderation decision. A keyed hash of your connection IP is used for spam limits; the raw IP is not stored in comment records. When AI comment moderation is enabled, comment text and article context are sent to the configured AI provider. Uncertain decisions remain for administrator review. Accuracy reports store your feedback and any source URL. Do not include sensitive personal information.

Community accounts and contributions

Reader accounts store your email, password hash or linked social identity, display name, username, bio and profile picture. Your profile, contribution badge, published articles and article location tags are public; your email and private drafts are not public. Article submissions are sent to our AI provider for content-policy and travel-relevance checks before publication. Sign-in and submission attempts are recorded for abuse prevention. Google, LinkedIn, Facebook or X sign-in shares the identity information permitted by you; provider credentials are not displayed publicly.

Cookies and security

Session cookies support sign-in and form security. A random reader cookie helps manage article likes and abuse prevention. Saved articles are linked to your signed-in account so you can access your reading list across devices. Older browser-only bookmarks may remain in local browser storage until you clear it. Server requests may include IP addresses and basic technical information used for service operation and security.

AI travel questions

When enabled, your travel question and conversational context are sent to the configured AI provider. Avoid sharing private details. Automated answers may be incorrect and should be checked before relying on them.

Destination preferences and nearby stories

Your selected country or place is stored in an essential preference cookie for up to a year. A selected destination takes priority over approximate IP-based suggestions. When IP hints are enabled, IPWhois receives your IP to return country, city and approximate coordinates; the hint is cached in your session for up to 24 hours. Browser location is requested only when you click Near me. We round coordinates to two decimal places and keep them in your session for up to one hour; coordinate values are not sent to the AI provider. A selected destination or approximate city/country name may accompany your travel question to give the assistant context. Distances are approximate straight-line estimates. Location information does not prove that an attraction is safe, accessible or open. Place directory data is from GeoNames under CC BY 4.0, with operator additions from linked sources.

Chatbot location examples and voice

When approximate location examples are enabled, your IP address is sent to IPWhois to obtain a city or country hint. We keep the hint in your session for up to 24 hours; the hint can be inaccurate and is not precise GPS tracking. You can change the example destination in the chatbot. This does not change article ordering. Voice input starts only when you select the microphone and grant browser permission; audio may be processed by your browser’s speech service. AI answers are saved privately in your session for one hour so you can continue after signing in. Closing the introduction is remembered in browser session storage.

Third-party photographs

Some images are served by external image providers. Loading them may share ordinary browser request information with those providers.

Analytics and site improvement

When configured, Google Analytics loads automatically and may use cookies to measure visits and share usage and device information with Google. This website currently does not display an analytics consent prompt. You can manage cookies through your browser settings.

When the operator connects reporting services, aggregated Search Console queries/page metrics, Google Analytics reports and public site-health findings can be analysed by the configured AI provider to suggest website improvements. Reporting credentials are not sent to the AI provider. These reports are private to authorised administrators.

Newsletter subscriptions

By opting in, you request travel article emails from Wardhead. Confirm your email using the subscription link before delivery starts. The current article digest frequency is daily; digests cover newly published articles and are skipped when there are no new stories. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link. Open it and confirm unsubscribe without signing in to stop future newsletters and cancel pending newsletter messages. You may subscribe again and confirm your address if you change your mind.

Email and retention

When email delivery is configured, email addresses and message content are processed by the selected email provider. Newsletter emails include an unsubscribe option. Public comments remain until removed by moderation. Contact the operator to request access, correction or deletion of information.
